Played with the PSO since: 2022
How old were you when you started playing the bass? Was it your first instrument?
I learned to play bass when I was 14, but the piano was my first instrument.
Why the bass?
The bass was one of the more versatile ensemble options available in high school. After I took it up, the instrument’s vicious, low growl really “struck a chord.”
What do you like about playing with a symphony orchestra?
The orchestra presents an opportunity to perform some amazing repertoire, to support the community and to develop a cohesive sound with a great bass section.
How do you spend your time outside of the PSO?
Trail running with my dog, Kelvin; tennis; writing; traveling & backpacking. I also perform with the New Hampshire Philharmonic.
What is your favorite piece to play on your instrument?
Performed: Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, Williams’s Imperial March, Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony and Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique; Unperformed: Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 11 in g minor (“The Year 1905”) and Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet
