How old were you when you started playing the cello? Was it your first instrument?
I learned to play cello when I was 11, but the flute was my first instrument.
Why the cello?
I fell in love with the sound that is so close to the range of human voice.
Do you have a favorite piece?
Franz Schubert String Quintet must be up there.
What do you like about playing with a symphony orchestra?
The amplitude and variety of expression having so many different instruments. There is so much great literature.
How do you spend your time outside of the PSO?
I work as a freelance cellist mostly string quartet, choral works and musical theater. I perform with the Lakes Region Symphony Orchestra, Lakes Region String Quartet.
Tell us about your musical education.
I studied at the Helsinki Conservatory of Music in Finland.
