How old were you when you started playing viola? Why viola?

I started playing the viola at age 50. I had played piano, trombone and guitar previously. I wanted to play with the PSO and knew viola would be the most needed instrument.

What do you like about playing with a symphony orchestra?

I love the music and being right in the middle of the chords.

What is your favorite piece of music to play on viola?

Anything Beethoven; also Copland and Williams.

Beyond musician, do you serve in any additional role(s) with the PSO? If so, describe what you do and/or your contributions in that capacity.

I am on the orchestra committee, serving as a go-between for community players and the PSO’s leadership.

Tell us about your musical education.

I have a Bachelors in Music from UNH ’76, Masters of Science in Music Ed. from UNH ’91.

How do you spend your time outside of the PSO?

I’m a retired music teacher. I play piano at church, enjoy my grandchildren, and read and make crafts, especially quilting.
