Antonio Vivaldi The Four Seasons
Spend an evening traveling through all four seasons without ever leaving your seat.
On February 13, violinist Sarita Uranovsky joins the Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra for a special performance of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, paired with four wines curated by Jude Blake.
As the music moves from spring birdsong and summer storms to an autumn celebration and the chill of winter, each wine will offer another way to experience the story Vivaldi created.

What Makes This Concert Special?
- It was groundbreaking musical storytelling. Published in 1725, The Four Seasons was accompanied by four sonnets describing exactly what the music portrays—including birdsong, barking dogs, buzzing insects, thunderstorms, a harvest celebration, cracking ice, and chattering teeth. He even left clues in the score, adding phrases such as “the barking dog,” “the sleeping goatherd,” and “the drunkards” above particular passages, making sure musicians knew which characters and scenes they were bringing to life.
- His music nearly disappeared. After Vivaldi’s death in 1741, his work largely fell out of fashion. The Four Seasons did not become the worldwide phenomenon we know today until the Vivaldi revival of the 20th century. Now it’s one of the most recorded pieces in history—celebrated violinists including Itzhak Perlman, Joshua Bell, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Janine Jansen, and Midori have all recorded it.
- You’ve probably heard it before. Music from The Four Seasons—both Vivaldi’s original and modern reimaginings—has appeared everywhere from Netflix’s Wednesday and Chef’s Table to commercials, weddings, and John Wick: Chapter 3.
- Each ticket includes four wine pours, carefully selected by Jude Blake to capture what spring, summer, autumn, and winter might taste like, as well as a $25 donation to support the PSO.
- See the music come to life up close. In the intimate setting of The Music Hall Lounge, you’ll be just steps away from the musicians—close enough to see their expressions, watch them communicate, and experience every detail of Vivaldi’s music.
