Travel through centuries of music in an intimate evening showcasing the beauty and versatility of string instruments. From the joyful energy of Vivaldi’s Spring, featuring special guest violinist Savannah Hanley, to the elegance of Mozart, the lyricism of Glière, and the breathtaking virtuosity of Halvorsen’s Passacaglia, the program brings musicians together in solos and duets. The evening concludes with Boccherini’s evocative Musica notturna delle strade di Madrid, famously featured in Master and Commander.

What Makes This Concert Special?
- Vivaldi’s Spring tells a story without words. The music follows an accompanying poem, bringing singing birds, murmuring streams, gentle breezes, and a sudden thunderstorm vividly to life.
- Mozart secretly came to a friend’s rescue. When composer Michael Haydn became too ill to finish six duets commissioned by Salzburg’s archbishop—and was threatened with losing his salary—Mozart quickly wrote the final two on his behalf. This concert includes one of those musical acts of friendship.
- Halvorsen transformed Handel across two centuries. Taking a keyboard theme written by Handel, the Romantic-era composer reinvented it as a spectacular conversation—and friendly battle—between two string players.
- Glière lived through extraordinary upheaval. His career stretched from imperial Russia through the Revolution and into the Soviet era, yet he remained devoted to the warmth and lyricism of the Romantic tradition. His duets reveal the intimate side of a composer better known for music on a grand scale.
- Boccherini captured an evening on the streets of Madrid. Church bells ring, prayers drift through the air, guitars and street songs emerge, and the military night watch passes through the city announcing curfew—the scene later made famous by Master and Commander.

The Details
- The concert will last approximately 1 hour.
- There is paid public street parking on River St, Washington St, and Main St (all less than a 5 min walk).
- Make a night of it: Enjoy dinner at Topolino, the new restaurant from Evan Hennessey—2026 James Beard Award winner for Best Chef: Northeast—before or after the concert.
- Tickets must be purchased in advance and will not be available at the door.
